What inspired you to join our clinic in Laredo, and what are you most excited to bring to the community here?
I joined LSMC because it is an amazing opportunity to join a sports medicine group with an outstanding culture dedicated to providing excellent comprehensive patient care.
I’m most excited to bring my years of experience working with high-performance elite athletes and provide the same cutting-edge modalities to the local and surrounding southern Texas community. My goal is to get you back to your preinjury level of function with as minimal risk possible. I take great pride in my work and make sure my patients get the outstanding comprehensive care they deserve.
My experience with team coverage, from professional and Div I collegiate level to the high school and community level, has provided me first-hand knowledge of the importance and value of working collaboratively with medical professionals and first responders.
Therefore, I look forward to immersing myself in the local and surrounding medical community, to establish symbiotic relationships focused on providing outstanding healthcare.
ABOUT DR. LANGER:
Phillip R. Langer, M.D., MS., FAAOS, is an Ivy League trained ABOS Double Board-Certified orthopedic surgeon with an extensive background in sports medicine and cutting-edge surgery. Dr. Langer earned his Bachelor of Science in 1996, graduating cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, received his Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University in 1997, and earned his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2001. His impressive journey includes serving as a medical expert at the NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB level.
Dr. Langer has served as an Assistant Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon for the NFL Atlanta Falcons, an Assistant Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon for the NHL Atlanta Thrashers, an Associate Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon of the NBA Miami Heat, and a consultant for the MLB Toronto Blue Jays. In addition, he has provided sports medicine coverage for the AHL Providence Bruins, Miami Jai Lai, Dania Jai Lai, Sony Ericsson WTA Tennis Tour, Brown University Collegiate Sports Teams, AVP Beach Volleyball Tour, and numerous high school football teams.
With a wealth of experience and expertise, Dr. Langer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has completed Fellowships in Level I Orthopedic Trauma at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University, one of the busiest Level I Trauma Centers in the country; in Sports Medicine /Arthroscopy under the guidance of F. Harlan Selesnick, M.D, Head Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon of the Miami Heat (NBA) and Inter Miami CF (MLS); and in Hip Arthroscopy with Marc Phillipon, MD., who is recognized as a pioneer of hip arthroscopy worldwide.
Dr. Langer has been elected by his peers as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, a member of the prestigious University of Minnesota Wangensteen Surgical Society and is an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Most recently, he was the Medical Director of the Department of Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians and the Medical Director of the Ortho Sport and Spine Surgery Center, LLC.
Dr. Langer has more than 15 publications and 25 national and international presentations on various topics in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, and arthroscopic surgery. He has been selected to serve as a symposium Chair on the treatment of complex knee injuries in the athlete by the Board of Trustees of the American College of Sports Medicine.
In his free time, Dr. Langer is a classically trained pianist, the son of a Steinway Hall of Fame inducted piano teacher. He also is a world traveler [53 countries, 6 continents… and counting], a sports and music enthusiast, and an advanced level trained scuba diver.
